Mission Youth Atlanta 2009

April 28, 2009

mission youthChers Amis,

Have you ever gone door to door as an apostle for Christ?  Is that too far out of your comfort zone to consider? It is for most of us and yet every year regular parishioners from all over the Atlanta area venture into that unknown during Holy Week to bring the message of the Gospel to others.  Two years ago Caddie, Scarlett, Pippin and I spent Holy Week on such a mission at our parish.  It was an experience we will never forget.  We did not go on missions this year, but I want to share this beautiful slide show of the mission at St. Brigid’s parish from this year’s Holy Week mission with you.

PS – If you are from the Atlanta area you may see many faces you will recognize, especially Fr. Theodore Book!

As you will see from the slide show, the missionaries accomplished a lot in three days.  They knocked on doors, delivered food, evangelized, worked on home repairs, and delivered Easter baskets. They encountered a little girl’s birthday party (festive with a Mariachi band) and on Holy Thursday, the group visited the Missionaries of Charity chapel to participate in the Last Supper service and ceremony of foot washing celebrated by Fr. Theodore Book.

On Good Friday, they constructed a large cross and joined the community in processing through the Way of the Cross.  A gentleman appeared as if out of nowhere and helped Fr. Emilio to carry the cross.  Another gentleman experienced a sudden conversion, falling to his knees in front of Fr. Emilio.
