Alleluia! – Day 16

April 16, 2009

Chers Amis,

The Easter baskets may have hopped back into storage, but Peter Rabbit still graces my mantle proclaiming, “Alleluia!” I did take him outside onto the deck for his ‘photo shoot’ for April Showers Day 16.  Peter is a bit worn like the Velveteen rabbit.  My dh brought him home about 10 years ago flush with roses and lilies. Most years I return him to the florist on Holy Thursday to be refilled and refreshed but this year, well, Peter stayed home.

Instead of flowers, I found a small box of pastel colored eggs at Kroger of all places and decided to make my own Alleluia! ornaments. Scarlett and I had a great Holy Saturday afternoon with a bit of gold paint, ivory and gold ribbon, and a fair amount of hot glue.  We actually had enough eggs (for$4.35) to write “sing Alleluia!” and nestle a few extra in a lovely miniature stand of daffodils in a blue and white pot.  It was an easy Easter craft, just my speed and budget. The only difficult part was finding a branch last minute that could accommodate all the eggs and not tip over.My kitchen was littered with rejected limbs before we found an old dogwood branch that fit the bill.  Simple, but appropriate

“…Slender and twisted, it shall be
With blossoms like the cross for all to see.
As blood stains the petals marked in brown
The blossom’s center wears a thorny crown.
All who see it will remember Me
Crucified on a cross from the dogwood tree…”
