Mystery Revealed

January 19, 2009

Chers Amis,

Did you make a guess about my mystery gift? No, it was not a diamond in the rough, but a crystal of HAWIAN ALAEA Sea Salt! My littlest sister sent me a collection of seven different specialty salts ranging in color and texture from slate gray pyramids, to rusty grains of smoked Salish, to bright white feathery cypress flakes. She also included a copy of Salt: a World History by Mark Kurlansky
to help me out with my 4×10 reading challenge. Kurlansky has written an excellent children’s book on salt called The Story of Salt that we will be reading and pairing this week with an investigation (and taste testing) of each of the new salts with a hand-held microscopes. I feel and urge to sketch and make pretzelsJ Thanks, yls!
