Mark your Calendars: International Rock Flipping Day

September 5, 2008

Chers Amis,

So how are you going to celebrate the holiday this Sunday? What! You didn’t know it was a holiday? Mais oui, mes amis! It is International Rock Flipping Day. Once a year nature enthusiasts of every shape, age, specialty, and species (scroll down to the winning picture at Marcia Bonta’s nature blog if you don’t believe me) put on a comfortable pair of shoes and venture out into the outdoors on a quest to discover, encounter, and document who or what is living under the stones around them. Please remember to carefully replace all flipped rocks after taking notes or pictures of the denizens. When you get home, share your findings, sketches, poems, writings, songs, or writings. If you have a blog, send a link to your post to Dave Bonta at via negative, if not you can post your photos at the IRFD flickr site started last year. We have never officially participated in this important holiday, but there is rarely a stone unturned here au Moulin and this sounds like the perfect Indian Summer excuse to get outside and enjoy the end of summer glow!
