Wash your hands!

October 24, 2007

Here is a slide show with our results for "HP" or hydrogen peroxide.  We learned a lot about how not to swipe the petri dishes.  Since we could not see the contaminant we applied it to heavily in some areas so it is not truly equal between control and HP side.  If we did this again I would measure the quantity of contaminant or restrict the girls to one "v" shaped swipe.  Regardless, it was fascinating to see the growth, especially on the control or non-disinfected side.  Note the white tendrils branching from the margin through the medium.  Unfortunately we do not have a good microscope or guide that would help ID the growth.  We wondered if perhaps it were some type of fungi –  mycelium.  Any microbiologists out there?  I will post pictures from our hand soap solution later.  Regards!
