Wonderful Nature Study Site – eNaturalist

March 3, 2007

Chers Amis,

I am just back from a walk to the creek with Caddie to check on her  salamander eggs and so she could show me an old woodpecker hole she found (excitement!).  I decided to do another quick google search on salamanders and I came upon this great resource The Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History Electronic Naturalist  eNaturalist. It has a nice archive of nature study units that are free to access.  Here is a link to the salamander units I found Which is Which? and Land Lover.  Which is Which? has a nice coloring page and a series of questions for students to answer (very similar to the ones I came up with.) Each unit has a printable poster, a short article, links to related websites, a suggested activity, key concepts, a few pertinent vocabulary words, and links to related eNaturalist units.  I always like finding new resources.  I hope you do too!

Oh, we love eNaturalist, too. Always seems to have great activities for whatever nature studies we are doing. We’re loving your salamander study.
