What is For Dinner?

February 1, 2007

Dinner_1
Chers Amis,

What is for dinner tonight and this coming week? That is the question of the moment – and I mean moment. This is  real time meal planning/shopping list making. School is over, book club is at our house tomorrow and I am determined to leave the house by 4:30.  Time to print out my shopping list Download groceries.doc

and highlight as I go.  Here it goes:
Friday – Candlemas – Le Chandeleur

Savory Crepes (ham, egg and Gruyere (swiss), spinach salad, fresh fruit, cottage cheese for picky eaters, dessert: sweet crepes w/jam, cinnamon sugar/butter (not to self: weren’t you going to write a post about crepes?)

Saturday – fun night

homemade pizzas – need a few slices of prosciutto, marinated artichoke hearts, red peppers, onion, mushrooms, leftover spinach, whatever fresh herbs I have on hand, cheese (already in fridge), fruit

Super bowl Sunday

Heavy hors d’oeuvres/salad? – I am taking the girls to the ASO children’s concert series and won’t get back before 6. Game starts at 6:40 something.   Dh loves a crudite platter – veggies w/blue cheese dressing as dip, fresh fruit, I have a package of puff pastry left over from Christmas in the freezer, I can spread cheese over the top, diced herbs, a few slices of cheese (note: don’t use the prosciutto for the pizza, save for Sunday) leftover Gruyere, roll up ahead of time, slice as pin wheels, bake, DH loves Helluva Dip and chips – have coupon don’t forget! (Note: I should highlight in a different color for those things for which I actually have a coupon – need highlighters!) beer

Monday

Chicken soup with herbed drop dumplings, leftover crudites/fruit, ever present cottage cheese (je sais que tu adores le cottage cheese Helene! HA!)

Tuesday

Stuffed shells w/cheese and artichokes hearts from freezer,  mac and cheese for Pippin and Scarlett, side salad, fruit

Crockpot Wednesday – We have both Adventures in Science and Pueri Cantores Youth Choir today so I have to make something ahead and set the table before we leave.

Pork roast with rosemary and garlic, potatoes/carrots, bread (Note: remember to put ingredients in bread maker before AIS and set delay start.)

Thursday – Shakespeare Club and shopping day

Leftovers, fresh fruit

OK, that took about 25-30 min.  I am off to put shoes on little people, locate coupons and get out the door before  my 4:30 deadline.

— Marjorie

PS –  Here are 5 things I try to always keep in my pantry (this week)

couscous – declicious and practically instant –  I love the Near East mix with pine nuts!

a good spice rub or two  – cajun/herbs de provence/coco-cumin

roasted red peppers, artichoke heart or sun dried tomatoes

shredded or shaved parmasean cheese (in frigo)

Jiffy corn bread mix
